Milliken residents hope wakeboard park flips economy

Posted: Updated:

The Mile High Wakeboarding Cable Park in Milliken is officially open.

Centennial Lake off of Colorado 60 and Centennial Drive is home to the first cable park in the state.

In place of boats, wakeboarders of any skill level are pulled nearly 600 feet by a motorized cable system.

Steve Jones, operator of Mile High Wakeboarding, originally looked to lease lake properties in Longmont to construct the cable park.

After contacting land owner Michael Jobs, Jobs convinced Jones that Milliken would be the right fit.

"We got talking about ways to bring people to Milliken," Jones said.

With a population over 5,600 people, Jones felt the park would provide Milliken and northern Colorado residents with an opportunity to learn a new sport and in turn boost the local economy.

Jones says interest in the park has been overwhelming with 80 of the 100 available season passes already sold after being open for one day.

Jones says not only will it draw in riders from around the region but also plans to host professional events that could bring 3,000 to 5,000 people Milliken.

Mile High Wakeboarding Cable Park will have a grand opening June 24.
