Undersheriff Bill Nelson and other Emergency Services personnel have been out driving the county this week surveying the conditions and have determined that while conditions are not severe enough for a total fire ban, extra caution is warranted.
Earlier the U.S. Forest Service issued the following reminders: "do not leave your campfire unattended; park vehicles in areas free of tall grass; and remember that fireworks are not allowed on National Forest System lands."
In unincorporated Larimer County, only fireworks that do not explode and do not go into the air are allowed. Fireworks should be displayed only in areas away from things that can burn or easily ignite and a hose or fire extinguisher should be available to put out any unexpected fires. Residents and visitors in incorporated areas of the county are urged to check their local regulations.
The Partial-Use Restriction prohibiting inner tubes, air mattresses and single-chambered rafts on the Poudre River remains in effect this weekend. With the warmer temperatures this week, the Poudre River remains unseasonably high and fast flowing. Violators will be cited with a class two petty offense which carries a $100 fine.
