Public employees and healthcare workers in the 4th CD believe Brandon Shaffer shares their priorities: good middle class jobs and a willingness to find workable solutions.
"Our endorsement is a reflection of the values we share with Brandon Shaffer. There's hope for every family that's living paycheck to paycheck in the 4th district if we elect Brandon Shaffer and more people like him to Congress. Congressman Gardner voted to rip people's Medicare away from them instead of working with them to create the good jobs we need," said Felicia Gutierrez, a medical assistant from Hudson and member of the SEIU Local 105 Executive Board. "It is time for a change because we need a Congressman that puts the needs of Colorado's workers first, and will break through the inaction and stonewalling in Washington to deliver for our families and our communities.
"More people are joining this campaign every day, as they see that Washington is simply not working for them, and they need new leaders who will first and foremost, focus on putting people back to work," said Shaffer. "People like Felicia need a Congressman who is on their side, and who will work tirelessly to create jobs and get this economy moving again."
SEIU says Senator Shaffer has a strong record in support of working families, providing quality education so our children can compete for the jobs of the future, and curbing the outsourcing of American jobs overseas. On the other hand they say, Congressman Gardner voted for Rep. Ryan's extremist Tea Party budget that would have abolished Medicare and Medicaid as we know it. He sided with the extremists in his party during the debt ceiling debate that were willing to force our country into default instead of working to forge a compromise on behalf of his constituents. And after running for office with a pledge to focus on job creation, Rep. Gardner has failed to propose and pass any bills that will put Americans to work, fix our schools and repair our bridges and instead has offered more trickle-down economics which hasn't worked before and won't work now, the press release said.
