Head coach of the CSU football team Jim McElwain will open his inaugural season on a Sunday this season for the annual Rocky Mountain Showdown against in-state rival the CU Buffaloes. The last time these two teams met on a Sunday was back in 2009 when the Rams bested the Buffs 23-17.
The setting will be Sports Authority Field at Mile High for a third consecutive season. The game is set to take place over Labor Day weekend September 2, with the time yet to be released due to the Pac-12's TV Schedule. Playing on Sunday again could provide the schools an opportunity to showcase their rivalry in an exclusive nationally televised time slot, as the only major-college or NFL game in session at the time.
The Buffs have claimed the past two victories over the Rams.
