Fort Collins arson suspect appears in court

FORT COLLINS, Colo. (AP) — A defense attorney for a beekeeper accused in a fire that caused about $10 million in damage in downtown Fort Collins says as many as 75 to 100 witnesses could testify at his client's trial.

Attorney Timothy O'Keefe made the comments during a court appearance Tuesday for Benjamin David Gilmore. The Occupy Fort Collins supporter faces charges including attempted murder, arson and criminal mischief in connection with the fire in October.

The Coloradoan reports investigators have said Gilmore's watch was found near where the fire started, and Gilmore had red, blistering peeling wounds on a hand and foot when arrested.

Andrew Gilmore says it's questionable his brother would have any motive in damaging someone else's building and that beekeepers routinely use tools involving fire to smoke out hives.
