LOVELAND -- Two high school students in a car turning in to the Thompson School District Administration Building on South Taft Avenue collided head-on with an oncoming SUV Tuesday afternoon.
The 12:15 p.m. accident in south Loveland sent two people to the hospital, according to a Loveland Police Department spokesman.
A Kia sedan containing the two female SOARS students was traveling south on Taft Avenue and attempting to turn left onto Carlisle Drive when it struck a Ford Expedition, which was heading north on Taft, said Officer Chuck Hofkamp.
A 17-year-old student who was a passenger in the Kia and an 18-year-old pregnant woman who was driving the Expedition were taken by ambulance to the hospital, according to Sgt. Jeff Fisher.
The student appeared to have suffered more serious injuries to the lower part of her body, Fisher said. The pregnant woman was taken in as a precautionary measure and didn't appear to be injured, he said.
After the impact, the Expedition hit a third vehicle, a westbound SUV sitting at the light on Carlisle. It suffered minor damage, and its driver wasn't injured.
Fisher said investigators don't believe either driver was impaired by drugs or alcohol. He said any possible charges are pending the completion of an investigation.
