Burned Land Causes Problem for the Poudre

"This is definitely something we hadn't seen before the fire."

The Young Gulch Trail along the poudre river is currently off limits to residents…and a quarter mile hike in revealed why.

A group of experts on land management, water quality, wildlife biology,  and many others have been working since the fire was put out to see what the burned land needs to recover.

"And what the team does they look at the values at risk in this area which are roads, the infrastructure, the homes, the water sources our drinking water that this area provides and tries to mitigate the immediate concerns," said Reghan Cloudman with the US Forest Service.

One of the biggest concerns right now is water quality. Because the Poudre River was so black today, they shut off the flow altogether. There are three different districts that get their water from the Poudre. Fort collins, Greeley and the Tri-Districts. But now, they are having to re-route to a new source
