Greeley Fire Officials say carelessly discarded smoking materials caused a Tuesday afternoon house fire.
Authorities say about 3 p.m. the Greeley Fire Department was called to 310 21st Ave Pl, Greeley, on the report of a fire.
Initial arriving units reported smoke and flames at the rear of the house. The occupant of house had been removing pets and was out of the house. Fire crews initiated an aggressive attack on the fire and the bulk of the fire under control within 10 minutes of arriving.
Crews worked for another hour to ensure that fire that had extended into the walls and crawlspace area had been completely extinguished.
Fire investigators determined that the fire was accidental in nature, caused by carelessly discarded smoking materials. Damage is estimated at $25,000. A crew from Weld County Paramedic Services checked out the occupant and released her at the scene.
